About TTTPHO Te Tai Tokerau PHO is a not-for-profit limited liability company, established in April 2003 in a partnership between Primary Health Holdings and Te Tai Tokerau Māori Strategic Alliance. Primary Health Holdings is a General Primary Provider Network made up of doctors, nurses and other staff from ten general practice providers. Te Tai Tokerau Māori Strategic Alliance is an entity with five iwi-based Māori provider organisations - Whakawhiti Ora Pai, Te Hauora O Te Hiku O Te Ika (Te Hauora o Te Hiku o Te Ika website), Te Runanga O Te Rarawa (Te Runanga o Te Rarawa website), Ngati Hine Health Trust, and Ki A Ora Ngati Wai - representing major iwi in Tai Tokerau, Northland. Te Tai Tokerau PHO has grown to be the second largest PHO in Northland, with 14 general practice providers in three localities - Southern Bay of Islands (including Russell, Paihia, Kawakawa and Moerewa), Kerikeri in the mid North, and the Far North (including Doubtless Bay, Kaitaia and Te Aupouri Penninsula). Whangaroa and Kaeo are part of Whangaroa PHO. All general practice providers in the geographical region covered by Te Tai Tokerau PHO are part of the organisation. Te Tai Tokerau PHO provides a range of health services through combined efforts of all providers in these areas. The six goals identified in Te Tai Tokerau PHO's 2005-2006 Strategic Plan are:
Our logo Te Tai Tokerau PHO's logo is inspired by the local Ngapuhi saying " Hei Oranga Ra" - Good Health by way of the Sun. We are grateful for the creative expertise of local artist Paul Marshall-Slade, who designed the logo for us. Paul gave us this explanation of Hei Oranga Ra: "Like many ancient indigenous people, Maori worshipped the sun, for without its influence there is no plant growth, no seasons, light or heat, and so there is no sustainable life. The sun also provides enlightenment, as well as physical nourishment of the body. The pattern surrounding the sun is called "puhoro" meaning power and speed. Power (or empowerment) is essential for a focused group to work with a determined direction to achieve a positive outcome. Speed speaks for itself, too much time has been wasted already, whatever the mission might be." |
