CVD First Response
Objectives
Four locations have been identified in the far north that are without ambulance cover, and where it would take 30 minutes or more for an ambulance to arrive. The aim of this project is to work with the particular community to establish and train a first response group to respond to acute cardiac emergencies.
Project
The success of this project relies on developing partnerships and a collaborative approach with a variety of community groups, in particular St John’s Ambulance Service, to ensure mandatory requirement’s policies and procedures necessary for such an initiative are observed.
This initiative has involved the advice and expertise of Michael McGivern, RN, an accredited Advanced Life Support and Resuscitation Trainer.
The first area focused on for the establishment of such group is Te Kao through Whakawhiti Ora Pai Health Services.
