Kaupapa Maori Cardiac Rehabilitation Programme

It is recognised that Māori are affected significantly with heart disease and therefore special consideration is given to providing a Māori Kaupapa Cardic Rehabilitation program.

Objectives

To improve health and wellbeing outcomes for Māori patients with coronary heart disease.

  • Increase the number of Māori who are referred to, participate and complete a phase two cardiac rehabilitation
  • Increase the participation of whanau in cardiac rehabilitation programmes
  •  Increase opportunities for whanau to be screened for cardiovascular disease
  • Increase community awareness of the impact of coronary heart disease on the Māori population, including the causal associations, heart disease prevention strategies, early identification of risk factors, best practice treatment for coronary heart diseases and increased confidence in seeking best practice treatment.
