After Hours GP Service

Our Role:

Te Tai Tokerau PHO works with the after-hours service providers to ensure anyone residing or visiting our area, can access medical assistance and advice after hours.

About the service:

After-hours services are provided through 3 main centres:

  • Mid-north
  • Far-north
  • Hokianga

Once General Practices are closed for the evenings and weekends, the after-hours services are provided by a team of Doctors and Nurses, supported by Homecare Medical Limited (HML).  HML provide a telephone service aimed at ensuring timely access to after-hours care.

Eligibility for the service:

Any person in the areas serviced by the after-hours providers, whether residents or visitors, are eligible to access the service.

How to Access the service:

Residents of the mid and far north, and Hokianga:

Call the usual number for your GP Practices.

Visitors to the mid and far north, and Hokianga:

Search here for any general practice near your location and call their number, and you will be connected to their after-hours service.

Other Services:

Emergencies – call 111 and ask for an ambulance if you have any of the following:

  • Suspected heart attack
  • Suspected stroke
  • Serious head injury
  • Serious accident

Always phone 111 if someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

General health advice:

Mental Health Emergency:

Either call 111 for and ambulance or call 0800 112 334 for the on call mental health team.
